We’re always asked how we decided on the name Southern Magnolias. It’s one of our favorite things about our company, so, in addition to sharing our styled escort card display today, we’re also going to share the true meaning behind our name!
To us, family has always been key to our success. We’ve been encouraged, supported, and empowered by family throughout our lives.
Our business is named after the women who preceded us, as a way to pay tribute to their part in our lives. The S and the M are the initials of those women – our paternal grandmother’s maiden name was Stowe, while our maternal grandma’s married name (and our mom’s maiden name) is McDermott. These three women have been incredible role models since we were young, so we wanted to honor them in our business. We love that our name has special meaning to us and our family.
The escort card display that we created for our first styled shoot was inspired by the venue. Willow Creek Farm has so many rustic elements, that we wanted to incorporate that into our design. We started with the idea of succulents as the main attraction and went from there. To tie in that rustic farm feel, we white-washed an old ladder to hold each plant. The pots we found reflected the metal cocktail area that served as our backdrop perfectly. To finish everything off, we added a painted “Find Your Seat” sign and beautiful calligraphed triangles by Letters from Lindsey. The benefit of these escort cards is that they also function as favors. Each guest, upon finding his or her name, walks away with a beautiful planted succulent. It’s the best of both worlds!
