We are so thrilled to announce that Bethany is now an engaged woman! On April 29, 2017, Kenneth got down on one knee and asked her to be his wife, and there was a resounding YES! For all the details on this fairytale evening, read Bethany’s story below.
How We Met:
I was a senior in college when I went to coffee with a friend from church. We discussed how we were both very ready to give up men for a while and focus on the other amazing parts of our lives, because boys were not doing our hearts any favors! Seven days later, I received a text from Brittany, a friend from my bible study, asking to pass my phone number along to her cousin. She had been thinking about how the both of us would hit it off and wanted to set us up. I was of course hesitant, given that I had JUST sworn off boys, but I gave the go-ahead anyways. After a few days of lackluster conversation, I decided to give it one more shot before I stopped trying to make it happen. That evening we stayed up and talked non-stop until almost 3 in the morning. Before finally calling it a night, he asked if he could take me on a date the next night. When he picked me up that night, the connection was immediate. I knew I was in deep within the first 5 minutes of seeing him in person. We stayed at the restaurant until they basically kicked us out, then continued our date at his apartment, talking, drinking wine and listening to Train. When I finally got home after midnight, I could not wipe the cheesy grin off my face. It took us a total of 10 days for him to officially be my boyfriend – we fell hard and we fell quick!
How He Asked:
Very early on in our relationship, Kenneth sent me a song called “Perfect” by Mitch Rossell. It was then that I knew he really was serious about us. In January of this year, Kenneth and I road tripped to Cincinnati to see Garth Brooks in concert. Come to find out, Mitch Rossell was his opening act! After the show, we went to Mitch’s meet and greet, where we told him how instrumental his song was in our relationship. Four months later, we were getting ready to attend Garth’s show in our local city, Champaign. We were excited because his whole family was also going! Seconds before we left for the show, Kenneth surprised me with fourth row tickets! Once we got to the venue, it didn’t take long for Mitch to come out on stage. For the last song of his set, he walked right over to our side of the stage and began to sing “Any Girl,” his latest single. Halfway through the first verse, Kenneth pulled me out on the floor to dance. We laughed, exchanged I love you’s and smooches, and enjoyed listening to the beautiful words of the song. All of a sudden, Kenneth pulled out a ring box, dropped to one knee, and asked me to marry him. Obviously, I immediately launched into ugly cry mode as I frantically nodded yes. He then told me to turn around, where I was surprised with my entire family being there also (cue second round of ugly crying). Once the hustle and bustle slowed down, I was able to finally look at my ring, which was when he explained that it was his Nana’s, with whom I share an incredible relationship with. All in all, I could not have dreamed up a more fitting proposal for the two of us.
From the Groom-to-Be:
When did you know you were ready to propose?
Around the holidays, I knew I was ready. During this time, we traveled a lot and had great visits with our respective families. Getting to experience those moments together made me realize I wanted to spend the rest of my life with Bethany.
How did you feel the day of the proposal?
The day drug on forever! I was just so excited for the day to finally be here after a month and a half of planning!
How has engaged life been so far?
Being engaged has been a fun time so far! We started getting mail as a couple this week so that has been really cool. It’s funny because we keep calling each other boyfriend and girlfriend still and have to correct ourselves- that will take some time to get used to! We have started looking into places for the wedding and I have been really excited for all of the time we will get to spend planning!
